societythere when it comes to sports kits greatly overlookedhow well your kids did academically in fact this you saw somethinghad really never happened beforewell andagain when you set the standardto be excellence as a person and as a player and to compete at the highestlevelyou're going to haveyoung men uh...make the connection that they are going to do well in the classroomand uh...missus important uses a this is a total programthat's what made the job fine you know is thatyou're helping young men prepare for their futureregardless if they end up inevitablyhave you always been that waywhere you felt thatthat academic rulethat grade point average was as important as performance money on thefieldhave in civil when i first started at notre dameandi felt like all these kids are great academic it i need to dismiss our folksin our baseballand i might have been a little overboardand how hard i worked onas counsel he he jokes of me about it a lotbut the truth is you knowyou evolved as a coach and you get better and better and you understand theimportance ofifirst it might be lip service when you're young coach starting out oftwenty seven years oldbennett as it gets a lot as you get older you realizeyou know you're really affected their lives and and what they're going to dobaseball and somedayso it's important to get the degree andemphasize you know going to class and be on time and listening inexchanging information but doing your own workingmuslims are all importantimage and create council when you see what he's not he just didn't want aworld series for one team he won a world series for two teams he's been rightthere in the heat of the battleyou know i'm proud of guys like that uh... i wish i could saycounselor produceleek puree fearuh... i davis i wish i could sayin house and the first bankbut i think you know the reality of himi'm proud that i was part of their careersbut they were good players when they came to methey might need a littledirection change here in therebut basically they were great kids it just needed a believe more that theycould do itand that's that's a real ke and believe in you can do it for surecheer personalityyour ad to in even sometimes arrogance over the yearsi'm not really karen if somebody like you're not because you really trulycared about these kidsand a lot of times people don't really know how to take you coach to be honestwith youbecause you were so focused on these kids from the fact that you have theseparents believe in you that your kid is safe with me he's going to get a gradeeducationarmitage each and morals commented to not to be a manthat one of the people were trying to get a fair 'cause everybody wants apiece of the actionwhen you would just kind of just like block people outyou think because you care so much about these kids the database we came back tobite you in the rearand this was a uh...wouldn't be considered a political and of course haha oxalic erotic literarycultural no i i i amlearned a loti've learned a lotand i i know i would change things unjust because you go through somethinglike this you know youso you know i could have done that a little differentlyi know i've grown tremendously as a coach but i think every year you grow asa coachi think i'm better now than they've ever been againbut you know i'd did some things thatyou know you wouldn't doyou know if i knewthe outcome if i knew but i never did anything to maliciously hurt anyone andi never do anything toyou know served the person in his future but sometimes i was maybe too toughsometimes i was thereyou know i thinkthat the player might not have been ready formy approachbut in the long run it they could probably end up helpingbut i'm not a guy that you'd come away saying that style of that experiencethis year effing cute ye ten years down the road you might realize that andthat's what i'vefun to be true some guys get you know they have great success in the greatdaily they get but i think other guys it takes a while and that's ok my job astep to truly just help facilitate them uncomfortably themselves andand hopefully uh... they go on and great successand to win gamesthat mixture doesn't always sit well with parents who doesn't know we sitwell withwith administrators uh... whatever but i've learned a lothave learned a lot andwhen something like this hits and it's a gross adjusted for himthis isn't fairyou realize you know it's fragilevery fragile see better enjoy it dnaindiaparisto be extremely detrimental to kidswomen heartthey really what was best for the kidswell as a pair of myselfhas learned a great deal from raising my son you know uh...cai was born in two thousand and from two thousandfor today i'm away better coach there ever was because i realizedthat somebody sky josephright there is i'm coaching this young man so then i started understand parentsmuch betterone side one sky was full time in my lifeand it was just me and himi don't know what i was doing theni realize how emotional parents can bebut i think the best thing i would tell parents is to communicate with coachesopenly from a nun emotional standpoint if they can ino step back and say okaywhere we want to this experiences where is the coach coming fromyou know criticizing after oryou know i was just standing back and second-guess in carrying out rumors thattype of thing assad helping indicate and usually the coach in the player has arelationshipthat sometimesparents don't understandand uh...but his parents were all grown soi'm sure i'll make the same mistakes because i'm awesomestill secretthat your son in two thousand it change your lifeyou've found ways to really build in the field of dreamswell i think that uh...kind i have a bond that uh...you know i don't make a rich have and and that is a closeness thatthe spoken word really can't describe it you know it's it's more abouta hot day todayyou know it's waking up every day in their owni got your back and he feels the same waywe look forward to seeing each otherit may not be withoutpouring of great emotion or anything like that which is noin and talk a lot about this experience i know has affected him corrupt thepackaging you know and and i think this waspretty hurtful to him but never said a word about itwhen we do next anne you know that was itbut we have uh... which showed a lot of baseball moments but we showed a lot ofgreat moments just togetherwhether straddlinglaugh-inwe've got our little t_v_ shows we watch togetherfight over the controller type of thing thoughtweaver with a lot of fun at consumers think surround me in my life is yourintegrand that baseball field and accuratejalan balls out into the neighbor's yard near was a good easter preferablyreveals its riches even your own neighborhood exactly didn't go over bigamerican airlines and a baseball fieldfamilies over there every night andcame out it was it was a lot of fun butwith current adjusted to a little bit by
