LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Kevin Love, and James Harden are just a few of the big names that have graced the hardwood for USA Men’s Basketball during international competition in recent years. Those men, along with 24 other American basketball stars, were named to the official 2014-2016 USA Basketball roster on Thursday.

Though the details aren’t worked out yet, the plan is for Team USA to gear up for the 2016 Olympic Games in downtown Tempe.

USA Men’s Basketball has decided to move their headquarters from Colorado Springs, Colorado to Tempe, AZ. The groundbreaking for a $450 million dollar multi-dimensional facility, called “USA Place,” will take place next month.

USA Place will not only feature the official headquarters of USA Men’s basketball, it will also include office buildings, a 14-story Omni Hotel, retail space and additional housing. The exact location of the USA Men’s Basketball headquarters is adjacent to the Tempe campus at the southeast corner of Mill Avenue and University Drive.

USA Place plans on building all of these components simultaneously, and hopes to have a grand opening of all the facilities in 2016. In all, the project will cover 10 acres of ASU property. Naturally, the development of this unique, new-age project will have a big impact and bring plenty of attention to Arizona State University. USA Men’s Basketball Headquarters will have a 99 year lease with ASU.

USA Men’s Basketball president (and former Phoenix Suns owner) Jerry Colangelo has tried to move the team to Arizona before. His previous plan, a 53.8 million dollar training facility near Camelback Ranch, never came to fruition as a result of the economic downturn in 2008.

For now, it is unclear if the Demarcus Cousins’, Blake Griffin’s and Chris Paul’s of the world will be heading down to Tempe in the next couple of years. The team doesn’t always practice where headquarters are located and only time will tell if the USA Place is completed by the projected delivery date in 2016.

However, if all goes according to plan, this massive collaboration between USA Basketball and Arizona State University will make Tempe, AZ a bright star on the national basketball map in the coming years.
