Did you know: The very first draft pick in the very first Major League Baseball draft was Arizona State Sun Devil, Rick Monday.

Monday enlisted in the Marine Corp Reserve

In 1965, Arizona State won their first of five NCAA Baseball National Championships. Rick Monday would lead the team to the National Championship, while hitting .359 and winning the College Player of the Year Award.

Later that year, Major League Baseball held their inaugural First-Year Player Draft, and the Kansas City Athletics selected Monday with the first pick of the draft.

After leaving ASU, Monday enlisted in the Marine Corp Reserve. He would go on to have a respectable career as a player, being named an All-Star twice (1968, 1977), and winning the 1981 World Series with the Dodgers.

Monday is probably best known for stopping two protestors from burning an American flag at Dodger Stadium.
