The speedy back with some of the softest hands in college football. -NFL
Marion Grice had his Pro Day today at Sun Devil Stadium. Due to a broken fibula suffered in November’s UCLA game, ASU’s touchdown maker skipped the NFL combine and ASU’s official Pro Day. This provided him with a little more time to heal before testing for scouts just one month before the draft — one month from today to be exact.
Along with Will Sutton, Carl Bradford and others, Grice is hoping to fulfill the NFL dream. That dream of playing on Sundays is just that for the overwhelming majority of college players.
In the NCAA’s last study, they determined that there were a total of nearly 68,000 athletes playing college football. And of those 68,000, only 255 were picked up in the last NF draft. The official percentage of college players that turned pro:
1.7%
When looking specifically at Division 1, the percentage is just a smidge less daunting. For the 125 “big boys” in college football including Arizona State, that percentage of players who jump to the NFL is:
Less than 4%
Interestingly enough, should Sun Devils Will Sutton, Carl Bradford and Marion Grice earn NFL contracts, that would represent 3.5% of ASU’s 85 scholarship roster.
Earlier today, Grice clocked 40-yard dash times in the 4.6 range, along with a 32-inch vertical and 96-inch broad jump.
The NFL has coined Marion Grice, “the speedy back with some of the softest hands in college football.” As of today, these teams are considered suitors for the versatile Sun Devil:
- Kansas City Chiefs
- San Francisco 49ers
- Indianapolis Colts
- Tennessee Titans
- New York Jets
- Buffalo Bills
- Baltimore Ravens
- Washington Redskins
- Denver Broncos
- Green Bay Packers
Securing Marion Grice’s commitment to ASU in 2012 was a big feet by Todd Graham in his first recruiting class (2012). Nationally, Grice was rated the #1 Juco running back. He also played the prior two years in the state Texas, where Graham has continued to prove effective in pulling talent to Tempe.
