I love this community, I love this school, and I love Sun Devil Nation.

TEMPE, Ariz. – Arizona State University running back D.J. Foster, the only active Football Bowl Subdivision student-athlete to account for more than 1,500 career rushing yards and 1,500 career receiving yards, will return to the Sun Devils for his senior season, he announced Tuesday at a press conference.

“I love this community, I love this school, and I love Sun Devil Nation,” Foster said, joined by his family and head coach Todd Graham. “I am so excited to be able to finish what I started and graduate and run out on the field on senior day.”

Foster, a product of Saguaro High School in Scottsdale, Ariz., led the team with 1,769 all-purpose yards and 1,081 rushing yards in 2014, and ranked second with 688 receiving yards. He is the only player in the nation with over 1,000 rushing yards and over 600 receiving yards.

He has 3,965 career all-purpose yards, including 2,075 rushing yards and 1,874 receiving yards, through three seasons at ASU. He scored 12 touchdowns in 2014 and has 28 career touchdowns, including 17 rushing and 11 receiving.

“There is so much outside influence, it is hard to control sometimes, and you want to make sure they (the student-athletes) have the right information,” Graham said of he and his staffs influence on the decision. “At the end of the day it is their life, and their choice, we just want to make sure they have all the information. We have a trust with our players; they know that we are interested in their wellbeing.”

Foster was named a Second Team All-Pac-12 running back in 2014 and has earned all-conference honors in each of his three seasons at ASU as he received honorable mention recognition as both a freshman and sophomore. Fox Sports NEXT also named him a Freshman All-American in 2012.

He finished the 2014 season with 62 receptions, tied for the 10th most in a single season in ASU history, and his 163 career receptions are the fifth most in ASU history. He had 63 in 2013 and is just the third player in school history to record 60-plus receptions in consecutive seasons, along with wide receivers Jaelen Strong and Derek Hagan.

“I just want to thank the Sun Devil Nation for all the support they have given me since the moment I stepped on this campus. I see the hunger and drive in this 2015 team and I am excited to be a part of it and help lead these guys to all the goals that we have fell short of so far,” Foster said. “This is the team that has the leadership and edge to it. I can’t to get out there and go to work.”

He has caught at least one pass in 40 consecutive games – or every game he has played as a Sun Devil – and joins Hagan and John Jefferson as just the third Sun Devil in school history with a reception in at least 40 consecutive games.
