D.J. Foster has cemented his place in Sun Devil history
D.J. Foster’s most productive season at ASU was 2014, his Junior year. He had a whopping 256 touches due to the fact that his primary role was at Running Back. Still, as a threat everywhere on the field, Foster tallied 62 receptions along with his 194 carries. The result: 1,769 all-purpose yards in a single season.
In 2015, Tim White’s Junior season and first in Tempe, he had only 88 touches. However White’s knack for explosive plays, which included kick returns, produced 1,709 all-purpose yards, just 60 fewer yards than D.J. Foster’s best year. That’s impressive considering that D.J. is one of just five players in NCAA Division I history to rush AND receive for more than 2,000 yards in their career.
Here’s a look at D.J. Foster and Tim White’s game averages. These averages include all 53 outings by D.J., who played in every game of his Sun Devil career, as apposed to 13 games played by White this past season.
As a JC transfer, Tim White has just one more season to leave his mark in Tempe. That’s not to say it can’t be significant. JC products, Marion Grice (2012-13), Jaelen Strong (2013-14), and Damarious Randall (2013-14) made big names for themselves, and fans will reminisce about their short but meaningful careers at ASU for years to come.
D.J. Foster has cemented his place in Sun Devil history, and he’ll only be more appreciated as the years pass. His accomplishments on the field and the class with which he represented ASU over four years will put D.J. on the top shelf of Sun Devil Nation’s favorite players of all time.
But let’s not undermine the significance of players like Tim White. Even though their time in Maroon & Gold is limited, they play critical roles in the program’s success. They’re also paving the way for more dynamic prospects in the JC ranks who regard ASU as a place to shine at the Division I level and get a good look from NFL scouts in the process.
In the 2015 Draft alone, three of the four Sun Devils to be drafted came to Tempe via Junior College: Damarious Randall in the first round, Jaelen Strong in the third and Marcus Hardison in the fourth. (Jamil Douglas (2010-2014) was the other Devil who was drafted.)
Will Tim White be back to have another stand-out season for Sun Devil Football? We hope so. Boy do we hope so.
