We presented the following comparison of D.J. Foster and Tim White in February of this year. Now, as the 2016 Season is upon us, here are the actual numbers and what White is capable of in his Senior campaign.
Without further ado:
Sun Devils, D.J. Foster and Tim White
Two very different paths to ASU. Two highly productive playmakers.
D.J. Foster was (and is) the embodiment of ASU’s Hometown Hero. While holding nearly 20 scholarship offers from programs such as Auburn, Oregon, Notre Dame, and USC, he chose to become a Sun Devil.
Before beginning his career in Tempe, Foster had played the game of football since his youth and later became an Arizona High School legend. His accolades and state records were numerous, not the least of which were the 60 touchdowns he scored in his senior season.
In his four years in Tempe, D.J. touched the football more than anyone in Maroon & Gold, save for QB Taylor Kelly.
Tim White had a different path to ASU. He didn’t start playing organized football until his sophomore year of high school.
Despite his lack of formal coaching since his family moved so often, White’s athletic gifts were enough for him to become a stand-out football player. It should be noted that White’s father, Tim, played wide receiver for USC from 1978 to 1982 as did is uncle, Lonnie, in 1985 and 1986.
After three years at Hart High School (Newhall, CA), White red-shirted and played two seasons at College of the Canyons (Valencia, CA). The receiver became a late signee, a very welcome one at that, to ASU’s 2015 Class with two years of eligibility. White reportedly held just two other scholarship offers, BYU and Utah State.
{Tim White is also on ASU’s Track & Field team which is currently in competition. He was a special track athlete in high school and junior college. In the U.S. Junior Outdoor Championships in 2013, he won the national title in the triple jump.
Just two and a half weeks ago when the Devils faced #2 Texas A&M, #16 Texas Tech and Oklahoma in a 4-way meet, White placed first in the triple jump (15.9 m). How good is he? Some scouts believe that White can make a run in the upcoming Olympic trials for a spot on the U.S. team in the Rio games.
This is something for football fans to watch. It’s unclear that if White’s track career presents an Olympic future, how that might, if at all, impact his upcoming football season. If he simply repeats his 2015 accomplishments on the football field, White will have a very good shot at an NFL contract.}
Ultimately, the comparisons of D.J. Foster and Tim White come down to…
Productivity
