DB Robby Robinson from Hampton, Virginia is one of the gems of ASU’s 2016 class. Rivals and ESPN gave him the No. 26 and No. 29 national cornerback ranking respectively.
As a freshman at DeMatha High School in Hyattsville, MD, Robinson played varsity for one of the most decorated programs in the country. Last November in the conference championship, Robinson returned a fumble 81 yards for a touchdown, leading to DeMatha High School’s and Robinson’s third straight crown and a No. 12 national ranking by USA Today.
Finally, amongst all of the newcomers to ASU’s program, Robinson made one of the strongest impressions on the coaching staff just days into Camp Tontozona. Since then, he has been projected to play a role in ASU’s secondary this season, a position group which needs to take a step forward if the Devils are to surpass last season’s 6-7 record.
Sun Devil supporters who have followed Robbie Robinson on twitter, have become fans.

DHD: Alright. Lighter topic. Some of the high school photos we’ve seen of you off the field suggest that you’re a pretty stylish guy. In fact, they remind us of past Sun Devil DB, Omar Bolden.
Robby Robinson: I am familiar with Omar, that he plays for Denver (Broncos). I’m not really into fads. It’s kind of what I like, my own style. But definitely unique, something that other people will follow. (spoken like a true cornerback)
DHD: Who’s your favorite musical artist?
Robby Robinson: (His eyes light up.) I like a lot, a lot, a lot of artists. I’m a big music guy. As far as mainstream, it would be somebody like Drake, Future, or J. Cole. But I listen to a lot of local guys back home- Shy Glizzy and Fat Trel from D.C., Fame and Big Fly from Maryland, I’m a supporter of all of them.
DHD: What’s your favorite movie and why?
Robby Robinson: Friday Night Lights. It’s been my favorite movie forever. (He’s not kidding. The movie came out when Robbie was just 6 years old.) I saw it the day it came out. I love just the passion and the story behind it. It’s all football. I liked the guy’s stories and how passionate everybody was about football. Where they started and where they ended up.
#ForksUp, Robbie.
One final note: Off the field Robinson is an exceptionally bright student. After finishing high school with a 4.2-grade point average, he arrived in Tempe this summer as a member of ASU’s Barrett Honors College.
