McKissic spent his summer preparing for his new role, and filmed an autobiographical documentary in the process
2014-15 Sun Devil Basketball started the summer off with a significant development when Shaquille McKissic was granted an additional year of eligibility by the NCAA. Here’s an off-season update covering the latest news around ASU Hoops.
With team leaders Jahii Carson, Jordan Bachynski, and Jermaine Marshall now playing basketball overseas, the Sun Devils will need McKissic, who played the role of a high-flying role player last year, to be a leader this season.
McKissic spent his summer preparing for his new role, and filmed an autobiographical documentary in the process. A preview of the project can be found on McKissic’s Instagram account (image below).
The following newcomers who will look to make a splash in Herb Sendek’s 9th year as head coach include:
- Willie Atwood
- Tra Holder
- Gerry Blakes
- Savon Goodman
- Kodi Justice
- Connor MacDougall
- Roosevelt Scott
Assistant coach Barret Peery will also begin his first year in Tempe. He comes to ASU after three win-filled seasons at Indian Hills College. Peery coached junior transfer Roosevelt Scott in his one season at Indian Hills.
While the McKissic news was undoubtedly the biggest of the summer, another big story was the commitment of Markus Howard, one of the top 2017 recruits in Arizona.
In his freshman campaign at Perry High, Howard posted averages of 23 points and 3 rebounds per game.
The Devils open their season on Friday, Nov 14 in Tempe, when they’ll host Chicago State Cougars.
The off-season actions of Herb Sendek give Sun Devil fans a lot to look forward to.
