Rewind to August 19, 2013. It was just 10 days before ASU’s 2013 Season kicked off.

In this video from Campus Insiders, Ray Crawford and CI Managing Editor, Pete Fuitak, preview ASU’s upcoming season. In it they note the Devils’ tough schedule, the defensive force that is Will Sutton and the talent of ASU QB Taylor Kelly. The question they raised, and it was one many fans considered, was who would step up to become ASU’s go-to receiver. They made their Predictions for ASU’s 2013 Season.

6’4″ 205 lb JC transfer receiver, Jaelen Strong, had only just begun practicing after opening fall camp with an injury and waiting for academic clearance. Expectations were high for Strong, but given his short time acclimating to the team, developing a chemistry with his quarterback and adjusting to his new life in Tempe, fans didn’t have much evidence of his stock at this level.

Then in ASU’s opener against Sacramento State, Strong collected 6 receptions for 60 yards including a beautiful leaping catch in the endzone for a 24-yard Sun Devil touchdown. In Game 2 against Wisconsin, Strong nabbed another 6 catches for 104 yards (17.3 avg). Questions and concerns about the Devils’ passing game were quickly put to rest, and they would execute a very balanced offense on the ground and through the air all season.

Entering the season, Fuitak predictions for ASU’s 2013 Season was an 8-4 regular season record for the Devils. He believed a 9-3 year was possible if ASU could hang tough with their “nastiest” opponents in September. The Sun Devils did one better and finished at 10-4.

With the sour taste of the Holiday Bowl still lingering for diehard ASU fans (myself included), let’ s rewind five months to Camp T. In August, how did you think the Sun Devils would finish the year? It can give a fair assessment of how Coach Graham, his staff and the team performed against expectations on the season as a whole.
