Official Press Release

TEMPE, Ariz. – The Sun Devil Club, the fundraising arm of Sun Devil Athletics, today unveiled a new logo which unifies elements of both its proud tradition and vision for the future. The new logo represents the first installment of a campaign designed to increase awareness about the organization’s mission of providing financial support to advance Sun Devil student-athletes on the field and in the classroom.

Combining the Pitchfork logo and trademark Sun Devil Bold font, the new Sun Devil Club mark reflects the modern-day look of Sun Devil Athletics and also recognizes the roots of the 66-year-old charitable organization, which was first established as the Sun Angel Foundation in 1947.

“Over the course of the 2012-13 academic year, the Sun Devil Club Board of Directors, Sun Devil Athletics and ASU Foundation have worked together to develop a clear vision for the future of the Sun Devil Club and this new look embodies that partnership,” said Sun Devil Vice President for University Athletics Steve Patterson.Added Sun Devil Club Board of Directors President Gregg Tryhus, “The Sun Devil Club was built by this community and it is fitting that the new logo recognizes our past embraces our present and will carry us into the future.”

The principal players in the logo refresh were Sun Devil Club Board members Ray Artigue and David Reich, who, working in conjunction with ASU’s Office of Public Affairs, oversaw the project from start to finish.

“Community is integral to the Sun Devil Club and I want to thank Ray and David for not only bringing this project to light, but taking the lead and helping to create a great look that we can be proud of,” said Cooper Jones, Executive Associate Athletics Director for the Sun Devil Club. “This new look is an appropriate beginning to our organization’s future progress.”

A 501(c)3 charitable organization, the Sun Devil Club helps support many fundamental components of Sun Devil Athletics including, but not limited to, student-athlete scholarships, academic support and facility construction and maintenance. The funding provided by the Sun Devil Club provides Sun Devil Athletics with the resources necessary to compete in the Pac-12 Conference and on a national level.

Funding from the Sun Devil Club has enabled Sun Devil Athletics to build numerous facilities in the last 10 years, including the Weatherup Center (men’s and women’s basketball practice facility), the Verde Dickey Dome (indoor football practice facility), the John Spini Women’s Gymnastics Training Center and a new training center for the Sun Devil wrestling team. During that same time frame, improvements have been made to Sun Angel Stadium (track and field), Mona Plummer Aquatic Complex, Wells Fargo Arena, Sun Devil Stadium and the Carson Student-Athlete Center.

The next phase of the Sun Devil Club’s current campaign will occur later this summer when it launches its new website that will serve as the primary vehicle to tell the stories of those who the Sun Devil Club assists and the benefactors who make it possible.
