ASU All-Time vs. USC: 10-19 Overall
Tempe, AZ October 14, 1978- The ASU defeat would be the Trojans’ only loss that season, costing USC an outright National Championship.
In 1978 the Pac-8 expanded to include Arizona State and the University of Arizona, thus becoming the new Pac-10. In just their second battle in their new conference, the Sun Devils beat USC 20-7 in Tempe on October 14, 1978.
The Devils’ win would prove to be historic in an even bigger way by season’s end. The ASU defeat would be the Trojans’ only loss that season, costing Marcus Allen, Ronnie Lott, Anthony Munoz and company an outright National Championship, as they finished 2nd in the AP poll to Alabama despite having defeated the Crimson Tide two weeks before playing ASU.
