Tempe, AZ – For the second straight week, Coach Graham and the Sun Devil equipment staff are unveiling a new ASU football helmet. Last week against USC, it was the enlarged, gold fork on one side of the maroon helmet, with the old school number for each player on the other.
This week, they are taking it to an entirely different level.
Following Graham’s press conference today, ASU introduced their new uniform combination for the Notre Dame Shamrock Series game in Dallas on Saturday.
The Devils are taking their existing black jersey and pants, and adding some radical new bells and whistles.
The biggest attention grabber is the new and progressive “flame” helmet. The new design includes a base color of black with some subtle maroon highlights, and a random flame pattern covering the entire helmet (no two players will have the same pattern). The flames almost have a “camouflage” look at first glance and will show great under the bright lights on national television.
The helmet has pitchforks on the sides and back, along with each players jersey number.
They also added a new twist with the facemask. The hard, rubber material that covers the mask is a black “charred” texture that plays off the flames on the helmet. Very creative and unique.
Along with the bold new helmet design, the Sun Devils are adding new black sleeves with a “pitchfork and flames” design, black and gold Nike gloves and black Nike socks with gold accents (see more photos on our Facebook page).
This is the new world of college football and Coach Graham gets it. He understands the national exposure of the game this weekend and the impact the new “look” will have on recruits.
He understands that not only do you have to win, but you have to look cool doing it.
When the entire package is put together on Saturday, there will be a serious buzz about the new Sun Devil gear not only in Dallas, but across the nation.
