Tempe, AZ – The House of Heat had the thermometer cranking tonight with a game time temperature of 107 degrees. It took a little more time than expected for the Sun Devils to warm up, but once they did it wasn’t a contest. ASU dominated Sacramento State 55-0 at Sun Devil Stadium.
First Quarter
Sacramento State received the kick off and got off to a solid start by converting four third downs and driving to the Sun Devil 20 yard line before having a field goal blocked. It was all ASU after that. The Sun Devils got on the board with just under four minutes left in the first quarter when Taylor Kelly found De’Marieya Nelson for a 16 yard TD pass. Kelly followed that up with a 41 yard scoring strike to Kevin Ozier. At the end of the first quarter, ASU led Sacramento State 14-0.
Second Quarter
The Sun Devils put the pedal to the metal and continued their high octane scoring in the second quarter. Marion Grice had a 6 yard scoring run, Kelly hit Chris Coyle for a 33 yard scoring strike and then Grice for 26 yards and another score. The Devils were on cruise control by halftime leading the Hornets 42-0.
Third Quarter
Things slowed down a bit in the second half. Kicker Zane Gonzalez starting the scoring with 40 yard field goal extending the ASU lead to 45-0. After a Grandville Taylor interception and the Devils near the goal line, Michael Eubank came in the game to take it in from 4 yards out. Fourth Quarter
Mike Bercovici and Eubank rotated possessions in the fourth quarter, with Eubank putting together some solid drives. Gonzalez hit another field goal at the start of the fourth quarter to make the final score 55-0.
