The 2012 Sun Devil football team did what they were supposed to do on Thursday night and dominated the NAU Lumberjacks.  But the best part about the victory was that they looked really good doing it.  The team displayed solid fundamentals, execution, focus and drumroll please…discipline.  It was a refreshing site to see and I’m sure Frank Kush was proud of what happened tonight on the field named after him.

Cameron Marshall scores his first of two touchdowns on Thursday night.

The Sun Devils didn’t waste any time getting on the board in the first quarter with two touchdowns by Cameron Marshall.  The points continued to roll in during the second quarter as the Sun Devils started to spread the wealth on offense.  Freshman superstar DJ Foster scored his first Sun Devil touchdown, Brandon Magee scored on a pick six, Marion Grice and Michael Eubank added scores of their own.  The Devils went to the locker room with a commanding 42-0 lead.

Barndon Magee returns an interception for a touchdown against NAU.

By the end of the third quarter, the Sun Devil offense had compiled 249 yards passing and 190 yards rushing and seven touchdowns, including three by newcomer Marion Grice.  We believe those totals would qualify as “high octane” offense.  As the evening started to wind down in the fourth quarter and the Sun Devils had achieved their objective of scoring at will and playing solid defense, the reality check was that this was just a tune up for the real test next week against Illinois.  But you can’t win them all if you don’t win the first one.
