Tempe, AZ – Pack your bags, the train to Omaha leaves tonight. That is the expectation for ASU Baseball every year, and it starts tonight. This evening at Packard Stadium, the 16th ranked Arizona State baseball team opens the 2013 season with a three-game series against Bethune-Cookman University. First pitch tonight is at 6:30 PM MT, followed by a 1:00 PM start on Saturday and a 12:30 PM game on Sunday.
Pre-season All-American Trevor Williams (12-2 / 2.05 ERA in 2012) will take the mound for ASU on Friday night.
A few Notes from ASU Media Relations…
The Sun Devils will open their 55th season of modern-era baseball. Arizona State is 42-11-1 all-time in season openers, including a perfect 3-0 under fourth-year head coach Tim Esmay.
50 Season of Success
The baseball program secured its 50th straight 30-win season, which is the longest current streak in Division-1 baseball. Florida State is close with 48 consecutive. The streak started with the 1963 season when ASU went 34-13.
Best Attendance on West Coast
ASU Baseball has never had a problem with fan support and attendance. For the eighth consecutive year and the ninth time in the last 10 years, the Sun Devils led the West Coast in attendance. An average of 2,834 fans per game came to Winkles Field-Packard Stadium at Brock Ballpark during the 2012 season, the 22nd highest total in the entire nation. A total of 82,214 came to Packard Stadium last season. No other Pac-12 team ranked in the Top 25 in average national attendance.
With only a few years left of ASU Baseball at Packard Stadium before they relocate, be part of the history and tradition.
