Tempe, AZ – Defensive Coordinator Paul Randolph said it first, “I’m a link in this chain and I won’t let it break.”
Strong words that represent the ultimate commitment to the ASU football program.
A loyal ASU fan and season ticket holder overheard Randolph’s comment last year at Camp Tonotzona and had an idea. ASU should do something with that message, so the fan gave direct feedback to the Sun Devil ticket office.
ASU embraced the “link” idea and incorporated the concept into their 2013 season ticket marketing plan.
Here’s how it works. If you’re a season ticket holder for the 2013 football season, you get to hang your personal Sun Devil key chain “link” in the Tillman Tunnel with your name on it.
Jessica Leitch, mananger for season ticket service and retention said the program has received an excellent response from fans. “We invite the fans down personally and give them a tour of the facilities. At the very end, we thank them for their commitment, give them their link to add to the chain, and take some family photos in Tillman Tunnel by the field entrance. We then send the photos to the Sun Devil Athletics website, facebook page, twitter and all the social media channels.” Fans love it.
Leitch added, “We want every season ticket holder to add their “link” to the chain and “connect” their commitment to Sun Devil Football.”
The Sun Devil chain continue to grow as more links are added every day and retention of existing season ticket holders is just as important as adding new ones.
“So far, we have around 5,000 new season ticket holders for 2013 and our goal is to get to 7,000.” Leitch also added, “Combine that with the 18,500 renewals from last year and we will be at approximately 23,500 season tickets sold, not including the student section.”
With the foundation for the season ticket holders increasing, and with the renovations to Sun Devil Stadium on the horizon, there is no reason why a ticket to the house of heat will once again be in high demand.
“The goal is to get Sun Devil Stadium to 80% full capacity of season ticket holders in the next 2-3 years and make it feel like back in the Kush days when it was hard to find a seat.”
That would be an impressive unbreakable chain.
