ASU Football lost the commitment of four-star DB Jaleel Wadood on Tuesday. Wadood is the cousin of sophomore, Rashad Wadood.

The 5-foot-11, 160-pound Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco product decided to reopen his recruitment after receiving offers from virtually every school in the Pac-12. 

Wadood’s father, Haamid, told Azcentral.com’s Doug Haller that his son made a knee-jerk reaction to the ASU offer where he would have been able to play with his cousin, redshirt sophomore CB Rashad Wadood.  

“At the time that he was offered by ASU, he was just overly, overly excited and just really overwhelmed and hadn’t seen or been anyplace else,” Haamid told Haller. ”His (cousin) was there. He used to go to the games, it was just the only thing that he knew. He made an emotional decision. He just thought that being able to play with his (cousin) and with the family all traveling, it would just be a great situation. But again, he hadn’t been or seen anything else other than Arizona State.”

While no longer a commit, the Sun Devils aren’t out of the running for Jaleel. ASU is in his top-four schools along with Cal, USC and UCLA. 

The de-commitment does come as a blow to a 2014 recruiting class that has been off to a slow start. After the loss of Wadood, the Sun Devils currently have the No. 47 recruiting class according to Scout.com and No. 78 class according to Rivals.com. 

In actuality, those figures don’t mean much today as they will come November and December when prospects finish their senior season. Most players won’t make their commitments until that time up until National Signing Day in February. 

Assistant Athletics Director for Recruiting, Sherman Morris, and Graham’s staff have several months to put together a strong class that may, or may not, include Wadood.
