Let’s crack open the book and look at some of the highlights so far from the 2013 season…
As he does before every game, Taylor Kelly sits by his locker and applies a healthy dose of snake oil to his Sun Devil uniform. It comes in handy when scrambling and when he keeps the ball on the zone option read near the goal line. The Idaho connection with Jake is also an added bonus.
Since the Devils have hit stride with their Pac-12 schedule, Carl Bradford has been performing his Freakshow on a weekly basis.
Senior RB Marion Grice has piled up Devil-Yards all season long. When not attacking his way through the defense, Grice also has displayed some breathtaking moves in the open field. To Grice like that has been a work of art on the gridiron this season for the national scoring leader.
Following the Sun Devils first loss of the season to Stanford, Coach Graham continued Speaking Victory, and the team crushed USC the following week, 62-41.
Although the Devils lost a tough one against Notre Dame in Dallas, one of the best highlights from the game was when Taylor Kelly launched an AW-16 strike to Jaelen Strong on a fourth down play in the second quarter. The Kelly to Strong connection has now become a staple of the ASU offense.
In what was expected to be a close match up between two Pac-12 contenders, it was never a contest as ASU Devil-dawged the Washington Huskies in Sun Devil Country, 53-24. Chris Coyle flipped out when he tried to sky-cam a Husky defensive back along the sidelines after a catch. Maybe Coyle should leave the flying leaps to Cameron Marshall.
Both Washington schools had rough games against the Devils and the ASU’s Hell’s Gate. Will-da-Beast, Carl Bradford and company went Eat’n all day long. The Sun Devil “D” held the Huskies to -5 yards rushing and the Cougars to only 2 yards.
Against Wazzu, D.J. Foster caught a screen pass, broke a tackle, and built up a full head of steam near the goal line. Hoping to protect his end zone, the Cougars’ strong safety quickly approached what he expected to be a shifty running back. But instead of going down and avoiding contact, D.J. lowered his head and fostered his way into the end zone for his first of two TD’s on the night.
On his return home to the Pacific Northwest for the Washington State game, coach Aaron Pflugrad developed a case of swine-pflu as he led the team on the Devil walk at Martin Stadium.
Forks Up, Sun Devil Nation.
