#13 Devils sweep Dirtbags at Packard: Weekend summary & video highlights

Tempe, AZ – 19th ranked ASU Baseball (10-2-1) protected Packard Stadium over the weekend and swept the Long Beach State Dirtbags in a three game series. ASU held Long Beach State scoreless in 26 of 27 innings, committed zero errors and outscored the Dirtbags 21-2.

One word = RELENTLESS.

SATURDAY DOUBLE-HEADER (3/9)

Game One – ASU 4 – Long Beach 0

Ace Trevor Williams (3-0) continued his dominance and scattered 3 hits over 9 innings. Second baseman James McDonald was 2-4 with a solo home run over the right field wall and an RBI double. Mike Benjamin and Jake Peevyhouse hit back to back triples, and the Sun Devils had five extra base hits.

Game Two – ASU 6 – Long Beach 0

Pitcher Ryan Kellogg (3-0) struck out 5 in 7 innings and allowed 2 hits, 1 walk. Trever Allen hit his fourth homer of the season in the 4th inning and Mike Benjamin had two hits to extend his hit streak to 11 games. Dalton DiNatale also got his first career RBI. Alex Blackford and Matt Dunbar closed out the game for the Sun Devils.

SUNDAY (3/10) ASU 11 – Long Beach 2

Pitcher Adam McCreery (1-1) got his first win of the season, and was supported by a James McDonald solo HR in the 6th inning. Mike Benjamin added a double to extend his hitting streak to 12 games. Relief pitchers Alex Blackford, Matt Dunbar and Ryan Burr closed out the game for the Sun Devils.

Next up:

After the weekend sweep, the Sun Devils moved up to #13 in the nation and will face the New Mexico Lobos on Wednesday night (3/13) at Packard, before they start Pac-12 conference play over the weekend against Washington State. First pitch is at 6:30 PM.
