Tempe, AZ – It was James Harden beard night in the 942 Crew student section at Wells Fargo Arena. The undergrads kept silent until the home team scored their 13th point in honor of Harden’s jersey number. When Carrick Felix hit a baseline 3 pointer from the corner for ASU’s 14th point, the place went nuts.
In the quest for their 20th victory and a shot at the NCAA tournament, the Sun Devils (20-7 / 9-5 Pac-12) were in control early and ran away with this one by halftime. The big three for ASU (Felix/Carson/Bachynski) took care of business and led the way for the Sun Devils as they defeated the Washington State Cougars, 69-57.
Double-double machine Carrick Felix added another one to his season total with 23 points and 11 rebounds. Jahii Carson finished the night with 21 points, 5 assists and his second slam dunk of the season. Also, the 2013 block party continued for Jordan Bachynski as he finished with 5 more blocks and 12 points. Bachynski passed the 100 mark for blocks on the season and now has 103 and counting. He joins former Sun Devils Mario Bennett and Roger Farrington as the only ASU players to reach that milestone. Only five players in Pac-12 history have posted 100 or more rejections in a season. Also worth noting that ASU was a much improved 15-18 from the free throw line (83.3%).
Up next for Sun Devil basketball is the Washington Huskies (14-13 / 6-8 Pac-12) on Saturday (2/23) in Tempe. The game is a late tip-off (9:00 PM MST) on ESPNU.
ASU Hoops defeated Washington State 69-57, for their 20th win on the season.
