The first official spring scrimmage at Sun Devil Stadium under Head Coach Todd Graham had a very different feel. For starters, the team was split up on two separate sidelines, the offense on the west side wearing the all official all white Sun Devil uniforms and the defense in all black on the east side. It was a nice touch playing into a desired Game Day atmosphere. The only way into the stadium was on the south side main entrance through the east gates by the ASU victory bell, Frank Kush statue and 1987 Rose Bowl plaque. Entering the gates, fans signed in to generate an official head count (that number coming). 1,000 fans give or take turned out, not bad for little promotion of the scrimmage. Spring Game is Saturday, April 21 @ SUN DEVIL Stadium // DieHardDevil is hosting an Official Spring Game Party immediately following on Mill Ave. Watch for details.

Overall, the scrimmage had a consistently rapid pace, with both the offense and defense sprinting on and off the field in between plays.  All three quarterbacks got their fair share of snaps to direct the offense, and nobody in particular stood out. Michael Eubank had a few nice running plays, while Mike Bercovici and Taylor Kelly completed some effective short yardage passes. One of the highlights of the day was an Alden Darby interception of a Eubank pass that was returned for 20 yards. Darby has added some muscle and looks solid back in his natural safety position.

Keep in mind that the entire team including the upper class men are still adjusting to the new system & schematics coupled with completely new terminology. While Coach Graham noted that there were no surprises, he made it clear that the team has a long way to go.

A new sense of urgency instilled by this staff will bode well as players rise to this new challenge. Next practice is Tuesday, open to the public.
