Tempe, AZ – The Arizona State Sun Devil baseball team hosted Bethune-Cookman University at Packard Stadium this weekend for the 2013 home series opener. ASU won the first two games, but lost on Sunday to finish the weekend and start the season at (2-1).
Friday (2/15) – ASU 5 – BCU 4
Pre-Season All-American Trevor Williams took the mound and the Sun Devils battled to an extra innings win on opening night. The Sun Devils trailed 4-3 in the ninth inning, but strung together 3 consecutive hits to push the game to extra innings. Shortstop Drew Stankiewicz went 3-5 with 3 runs scored and an RBI. Pitcher Matt Dunbar (1-0) pitched a scoreless 11th inning for the win.
Saturday (2/16) – ASU 15 – BCU 7
Ryan Kellogg (1-0) pitched four scoreless innings, the Sun Devil offense came alive and ASU got the win on Saturday 15-7. Freshman first baseman David Graybill went 3-4 with two scored runs and one RBI. Kasey Coffman and Drew Stankiewicz each had two hits, and freshman RJ Ybarra collected his first career RBI.
Sunday (2/17) – BCU 7 – ASU 6
Darin Gilles got the start for ASU, but the Sun Devils fell behind early 6-1 in the third inning and weren’t able to recover. Catcher Max Rossiter and infielder Michael Benjamin had two RBI’s each for the Sun Devils. First baseman Rouric Bridgewater and shortstop Drew Stankiewicz had back to back doubles to start the Sun Devils scoring, but ASU couldn’t get much going for the remainder of the game.

The ASU baseball team travels to Knoxville, Tennessee for a non-conference weekend series against the Tennessee Volunteers. The first pitch is on Friday at 3:00 PM (MST).
