ASU’s strongest Alumni Chapter continues to shine as a model that other chapters can aspire to.

At the end of June, leaders of the ASU White Mountain Alumni Chapter could rest knowing they delivered on their major goals for 2013.

Their Annual White Mountain Golf & Steak Fry weekend had just concluded up in Pinetop, AZ, roughly two hours north east of Tempe.

In all, 500 fans made the trip up to the mountains for what has arguably become one of the best annual traditions for the local ASU community. Attendees include DieHard Sun Devil fans, leadership from within the Athletic Department and Sun Devil Football program, and many of the great players who represented the Maroon & Gold on game days throughout the years.

sponsors and participants. This was the first year organizers also incorporated the course at the nearby White Mountain Country Club to accommodate the large crowd.

Friday night’s cocktail party welcomed more guests than ever with 300 attendees. And this year, the anticipated turnout for Saturday night’s party forced the Chapter to rethink accommodations for the event. The party that had traditionally been held inside the Pinetop Clubhouse had now moved out onto the greens with a large pavilion tent.

Saturday’s silent auction served as a source of additional fund raising on top of the support of event sponsors and generous boosters. The auction culminated with the highest proceeds generated by the chapter to date from their annual event. The ASU White Mountain Alumni Chapter had raised over $100,000 this year, over a 40% increase from their results in 2012.

Some of the coolest items in this years silent auction were three meticulously hand-painted ASU Football helmets. What made these items extra special was that they were created by Sun Devil Football Alumn and 1998 Team Captain, Seanan Kelly (1994-98). The story behind these helmets and the process involved in completing them deserves it’s own article. These unique items created plenty of buzz themselves and by days end were traded for  several thousand dollars from a booster.

The Chapter delegates it’s funds to full academic scholarships for exceptional high school students to attend ASU and to ASU’s Athletic Department.
