Can a “Sun Devil” live with a “Wildcat”?
Now your first reaction may be, “Oh, Hell No,” but I have seen it, I have witnessed it, I have laughed at it and been amazed by it!
Let me go into more detail. I have a good friend who goes by the name of Jeff Turner (ASUFan on many pages). He lives in Anaheim, CA, but when you walk up his drive way and enter his home, you’d swear you were in TEMPE, AZ! It’s on the walls, in the air, on the TV and his heart!
Something very strange though, there seems to be an odd balance, a static, something trying to take it’s share of that Football air, a growl if you will. Then it hits you- a Wild Cat Banner, WTH? As your eye catches the last flash of an ASU Football Play, “OH NO,” the channel is changed to another Game.
As if the turning off of ASU football wasn’t enough of a sin itself, you’re suddenly watching a Wildcat run for a touchdown while hearing cries of, “GO, GO, GO. Look Daddy, they just scored a Touchdown!!”
Now I have to say I have never watched such a brief TD celebration because “Daddy”, with remote in hand, quickly “manages” the situation. He lets her get but a millisecond of touchdown joy, then “WHAM” — We’re back watching the Sun Devil game. “No Daddy,” his daughter screams. His reply, “Just a minute, and we will go back.” It’s a bewildering moment in science when one-minute feels like 20 to Dad.
Of the many hard spots where we find ourselves in life, this one ranks up there. When there’s only one TV and a daughter with special needs in a wheel chair, somehow both games are on at the same time. The two seem to to work it out by the skin of their “What am I MISSING of My Game?” teeth.
Mr. Turner loves his daughter more than anything. His passion for Sun Devil football, especially game days, is unmatched.
Which one does he love more? Which one should he love more? Which one would YOU love more?
I believe that asking this question to a Die Hard Sun Devil with a true disdain for their rival is like asking someone to go collect all the sand in the desert and give every granule a name. Is that even possible?
Sometimes, believe it or not, the answer is “Yes.” Oh, it could be done but it would be the hardest thing you’ll ever do.
